Washington & Associates, a dynamic and growing Contra Costa criminal defense and civil rights firm, seeks a paralegal intern.  We provide interns with an extensive and enriching training program while interns learn the intricacies of criminal defense and plaintiff’s civil rights litigation support.  Interns have the opportunity to perform legal research, draft research memos and case briefs, review, organize, and summarize discovery, and draft simple motions.  Interns may, depending on the Firm’s litigation schedule, assist in court during evidentiary hearings and trials.  Strong organizational skills and the ability to efficiently meet strict deadlines and prioritize tasks is essential.  Candidates must be reliable.  Experience and comfort with a variety of computer software platforms is necessary including Westlaw, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Corel Word Perfect.  Experience with Clio and CaseMap is a plus.  The position also includes occasional interaction with clients, clients’ families, court staff, experts, and attorneys so candidates must be able to communicate professionally and effectively both in writing and verbally.  Applicants must show attention to detail, be capable of learning quickly and accept redirection, if necessary.
