Washington & Associates, a dynamic and growing Contra Costa criminal defense and civil rights firm, seeks a junior associate.  Associates start out with primary responsibility for a misdemeanor case load and assist on serious felonies and civil rights litigation but grow into handling more complex cases with greater responsibility. The position includes the opportunity to work directly with clients, handle jury trials, conduct evidentiary hearings, and draft writs and appeals.  Successful candidates undergo a robust and ongoing training program which includes in-house and outside trainings.  This is a partnership track position.  Preferred candidates must have 0-3 years criminal defense experience, a bachelor’s degree, a juris doctor degree, a California State Bar License, in good standing, as well as a California Driver’s License.  Strong legal research and writing skills, problem solving skills, the ability to think on one’s feet, solid communication skills, including fierce oral advocacy in court, creativity, thoroughness and attention to detail are essential.  Candidates must be reliable, sensitive to the needs and interests of our clientele and both willing and capable of learning quickly and accepting redirection, when necessary.  Additionally, candidates must be able to work independently and meet strict deadlines.  Bi-lingual Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply.  Must consent to a background check.  This is a full-time position with benefits as well as accrued vacation and sick leave.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Applicants must apply via our website at www.thebestonyourside.com/apply.  Only complete applications will be accepted.
